Social Studies Connection

In Saskatchewan, First Nations people created effigies to pay homage to the important animals of the land. Some of the animal effigies included the buffalo, the deer, the turtle to even humans...

In Peru, the First Nations or Indigenous people of South America did a similar thing by creating sand drawings to pay homage to different animals.

Note the materials used by the First Nations people of these regions. Why would these materials be chosen? Why were these animals paid tribute? When were these images created by these Indigenous cultures? Why were the images created to be seen from the air?? Why were these images created? What was the purpose?
